Democrats really have until October 1 to pick a candidate for Andrews' seat

South Jersey Democrats are in no great rush to designate a candidate for the first district congressional seat Rob Andrews gave up to campaign for the United States Senate – and they don’t have to be.  Placeholder Camille Andrews, the winner of the Democratic primary for the seat her husband has held for eighteen years, is under no obligation to drop out – and she could wait until very early in October to withdraw (note Angelo’s Law, the Supreme Court ruling that allowed Democrats to nominate Frank Lautenberg when Bob Torricelli dropped out of the race five weeks before the 2002 general election).  That gives Rep. Andrews quite a while to decide if he wants to return to the House, or who George Norcross wants to send to Congress.

That means Dale Glading, the Republican nominee for the open seat, could spend the four months without knowing the identity of his opponent.

wait it out

Andrews shouldn't make any decision right now, while tempers are still high and media attention is still great.

By late September, no one will care whether he goes back to Congress or not, and the focus will be on the Prez, Senate, D3 and D7 races....not on what Rob Andrews is up to.

Disagree

I think Dale Glading is in a very good position right now.

Andrews has out right lied to his fellow Dems by promising he would not run against Lautenberg, and not take back his seat.

I think most of us are savvy enough to know Andrews will more than likely return to run for his seat, lying once again and many people will eat it up.

But, Dale Glading will go on campainging I suspect, making him the better choice whether or not he has anyone firm running against him.

So

Basically what Wally is saying is that Andrews is gonna make a comback...Camille has a "health issue" and needs to be closer to home. Rob under the request of throngs of supporters will be begged to return to his seat and "after talking it over with my wife, and understand this issues concerning her well being, we have decided that the people of the district deserve continued vigerous representation in the House of Reps...blah blah while I said I would never run for the House the outcry was just to great to refuse blah blah as always I will be putting the needs of my constiuents before myself and my pride blah blah"

Electoral Amnesia?

Mr. Democrat says...

"By late September, no one will care whether he goes back to Congress or not, and the focus will be on the Prez, Senate, D3 and D7 races....not on what Rob Andrews is up to."

Putting aside(for now) the cynical/negative evaluation of the electorate implicit in the above quote it also assumes that the Republican candidate, Dale Glading, is stupidly incompetent.

If Rob Andrews were to, once again, go back on his word as you seem to be suggesting; Glading will no doubt raise a massive stink....and who could blame him.

If the Republicans were really smart; they would have nominated a Millicent Fenwick type anti-Bush anti-war Republican....that candidate might even have beat a Rob Andrews in a year in which he's carrying this much ugly baggage.

In any event, I don't believe Rob Andrews will have the unmitigated brass to run again......my concern is that the history of this primary not ever be "swept under the rug".

This fellow, as "talented" as he is, should never become our governor or lieutenant governor.

His credibility is shot imho.

Hmmmm.....I really wonder

Hmmmm.....I really wonder who the candidate will be...

Glading is a non-factor

Dale Glading can raise a stink, dance a jig, debate in every town in Camden County, get every newspaper endorsement, etc, etc, etc.

It won't matter. That's a Dem seat. Glading will be lucky to crack 20%.
