Chiaravalloti not going back to work at Menendez office

Nicholas Chiaravalloti today dispelled a rumor that he might be returning to Sen. Robert Menendez’s inner circle to again run the Democratic senator’s state office.

The Bayonne attorney, who resigned as Menendez’s right hand to mount a state Assembly campaign, said, "If he calls me, I would like to help him as a volunteer, but my focus now is on building my law practice and doing some consulting."

In District 31, a filing mess

The state Division of Elections office says Nicholas Chiaravallotti and Shelia Newton-Moses, candidates for the General Assembly in the 31st district, filed their petitions wrong in time for Monday’s primary deadline.

"They filed for the general election," said spokesman David Wald. "It’s unclear what the division is going to do. We have confirmed the petitions were accepted for the general election."

Chiaravalloti acknowledged that his petitions incorrectly, but noted that he submitted signatures for both the general and the primary -- and that when the Division of Elections throws out the ones he filed for the general, he still has plenty to qualify for the -- and Newton-Moses says she does too, he said.

Report: State Police doing 4-way on Doria

The Jersey Journal is reporting that the New Jersey State Police has begun a background check on State Senator and Bayonne Mayor Joseph Doria, who has been rumored as a possible candidate for Commissioner of Community Affairs.  Doria's name has been in the mix for the DCA post since Susan Bass Levin left to become Deputy Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Learning to spell Chiaravallotti a good long-term investment

Among the candidates defeated in Tuesday's primary elections, the one with the greatest potentialis Nicholas Chiaravallotti, who lost his bid for the Democratic Assembly nomination in the 31st district.  Chiaravallotti, who left his job as State Director for U.S. Senator Robert Menendez to make the race, ran on a ticket with Louis Manzo against the Hudson County Democratic Organization.  But HCDO leaders offered huge compliments to Chiaravallotti for the way he conducted himself over the last eight weeks, and recognized that the huge plurality his ticket received in Bayonne was largely a result of Chiaravallotti's efforts.

Fulop to endorse Manzo

Jersey City Councilman Steven Fulop is expected to announce today that he will endorse Louis Manzo for State Senate, and Nicholas Chiaravallotti and Shelia Newton-Moses for State Assembly in the 31st district Democratic primary.  Fulop represents Ward E on the City Council.
