State Senator Gerald Cardinale

“WE WILL MOVE TO PROTECT NEW JERSEY FAMILIES"
Constitutional Amendment Banning Gay Marriage Being Drafted
State Senator Gerald Cardinale, (R-39), issued the following statement regarding the New Jersey State Supreme Court’s impending decision authorizing gay marriage in the state.

“The New Jersey Supreme Court is notorious for disregarding the black letter of the law and for legislating from the bench. In the Forrester-Torricelli election deadline case this Court ignored the law and allowed the Democratic party bosses to remove a lawfully elected candidate from the ballot. This court has also ignored the requirements of the State Constitution and mandated taxpayer supported pre-school in the so called special needs districts.

“With this history of contempt for the law and the Constitution it is entirely probable that the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey will decide to allow gay marriage. In order to counter the likelihood of the Court's decision we will move to protect New Jersey families and six thousand years of western tradition by drafting a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. I hope this amendment will be ready for introduction by Monday February 27.

“Governor Corzine was entirely correct when he spoke of ‘...government by judicial fiat...’ during his inaugural speech. Now, we must all work together to ensure that the Court respects the will of the people and the letter of the law.
