Monmouth Republican Candidates Out of Touch
Asbury Park Forum Shows True Colors of the GOP
ASBURY PARK – At the Candidates’ Forum hosted by the Asbury Park Civic Participation Project last night, citizens were noticeably upset by the lack of reality presented by the Republican candidates, when they were present. Candidates Lucas and Little stated that they wished to lower property taxes for people like the residents of Asbury Park.
The question begged by those statements was asked by Democratic Candidate for Surrogate Beverly Bova-Scarano, “Why haven’t they? They have had 20 years of all-Republican rule in Monmouth County, and in that time have consistently shown a disdain for lowering spending and cutting costs. Offering no-bid contracts to political contributors creates waste in the budget. That waste equates to higher spending and higher property taxes.
“The Republican Freeholders have done nothing to reduce taxes in Asbury Park, nothing to reduce taxes for the people of Monmouth County, and nothing to cut spending, stated Democratic Candidate for Freeholder Barbara McMorrow. McMorrow continued, “We need to restore a two-party system in Monmouth County and regain the system of checks and balances that are needed to end this cycle of over-taxation and waste.
Candidate for Freeholder Greg Gibadlo echoed McMorrow’s sentiment, “This County needs an independent voice to bring sensible spending and smart leadership. That will not happen as long as the board remains in the total control of one party.
The Monmouth County Democrats and Democratic Campaign are committed to being the voice of the people. They believe in fair and open government that is independent of political contributions. The organization and its candidates stand in defense of the taxpayers of Monmouth County and call for an end to abuses of power and Republican corruption and a permanent closure of Club Monmouth. They know that with the election of independent voices, the people will truly have a say in their government.
