Menendez confirms Simunovich is still his Finance Chairman

U.S. Senator Robert Menendez's campaign has confirmed that New Jersey Turnpike Authority Chairman Joseph Simunovich remains as their Finance Chairman. "He is our finance chair," said Matt Miller, a spokesman for Menendez. The Record reported today that the state Commission on Ethical Standards has found that Simunovich "violated ethics laws when he took free trips aboard a jet co-owned by one of the highway's biggest contractors." A Menendez spokesman "said he could not say" if Simunovich, who spent twelve years as a Hudson County Freeholder, was "still serving in that capacity," the Record reported.

Folks...it's July. Simunovich is nothing but a Republican-hyped blip. If the GOP is putting their hopes on something this insignificant in order to deliver their stepford candidate to victory then i truly suggest that they all pack their belongings, look at the map, find a red state, and call it home.

Tom Wilson really needs to do more than issue sarcastic press releases and hope for Joe Simunovich to bring down Menendez. All he has is hopes...and we can see how far that has gotten the party. Sure we all chcukle at his comments, but at least the Dems see an occasional victory party. Tom Wilson has as much chance of being at a victory party in November as he has ending up in a mosh pit at a Marilyn Manson concert.

Prediction: Zulima Farber will see higher office before Tom Kean Jr. How sad is that?

I surely hope that the Menendez strategy includes ignoring all of the corruption that has surrounded Bob Menendez.

I hope Menendez cuntinues to run against President Bush and not Tom Kean.

The Menendez record:

Menendez votes against tax cuts and supports politicians who raise taxes.

Menendez votes against military spending and blames Bush for the lengthy war in Iraq. It is because of politicians like Menendez that our military lacks the necessary equipment they need to quickly finish the job in Iraq.

Menendez supports amnesty for people in our country illegally; by doing this he has insulted the rank and file of all labor unions. Give the rank and file a bit of time to digest the events. They are smart enough to realize that Menendez supports Hispanics not labor unions and that their once valued skills will be less in demand because the labor market will be deluged with more cheap labor.

Congressman Menendez has been surrounded by corruption since the beginning of his political career. He became infamous when he turned RAT and cooperated with authorities to trap his mentor Billy Musto. I wonder if Menendez wore a wire?Farber, Simunovich, Sires, Bobby J., corrupt developers...the list goes on and on and on.

Congressman Bob "MIA" Menendez has not yet commented on the situation in Isreal. Menendez condemns Senator Hillary Clinton for voting yes for the war in Iraq.

Keep on track Bob-Everything is going well.

I can't help but notice that many people here have the entire race plotted out...with Menendez either dropping out, being replaced, Zulima or Simunovich being dropped, etc.

Is this really what you people have to do all day? Really, you sit around and hope for a catastrophic failure on the part of Menendez. Is that what the Republican Party is all about now? Look at your candidate. Is that really salvation for you?

Tom Kean Jr. is proof that the Republican candidate depth chart is about as shallow as a kiddie pool.

Maybe Bob Menedez would be a vulnerable candidate -- if the Republicans could put one up there that isn't as embarrasing as you all accuse Menedez of being corrupt.

Someone should thank God that there were lawnmowers being used during that press conference last month -- it prevented people from hearing exactly what he had to say and probably should be a Republican Strategy -- never let them hear the guy speak.

So, with all that said, I suggest that the people sitting on here hoping for and predicting a Menedez implosion go back to what they do normally -- playing Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit, running the Republican State Committee, and preparing for a long off season.

If you guys want a candidate to give you guys a chance try and get Dick Codey to switch parties. Then going back to trivial pursuit.

Mr. Democrat, I'll admit that I couldn't help but snicker while I was typing Panter's name. I simply put his name down for insurance purposes so when my prediction becomes reality I'll have all my grounds covered as to who will be on the top of the ticket.

While I'm at it, I should probably throw Frank Pallone's name into the fray as well. I believe that his name was on that fake list Bob Menendez made up to take attention away from the fact that he inserted himself into Jon Corzine's Senate seat like a three-hundred pound bride's maid plowing through the crowd to get the bouquet.

I was happy when he forced his way into that seat because I felt from the beginning that he was hands down the weakest candidate the Democrats could put up.

Menendez was powerful because he was protected in the 13th Congressional District. He doesn't have that luxury statewide. Especially in Central and South Jersey where he's going to get pounded.

I sincerely hope that Menendez's campaign doesn't fall apart as fast as I think it will. The best case scenario for Sen. Kean is for Menendez to forge ahead.

Cristobal Colon (born January 3, 1969 in La Guaira, Vargas State, Venezuela), is a former Major League Baseball shortstop and switch-hitter batter who played for the Texas Rangers (1992).

A nephew of former bigleaguer Chico Carrasquel, Colon was named in honor of Christopher Columbus, by his father.

Colon was a career .167 hitter (6-for-36) with one RBI and five runs in 14 games.

I don't who in the blue hell YOU'RE talking about mojo, but Christopher COLUMBUS was ITALIAN. That's why every Columbus Day the Empire State Building is lit up in the colors of the Italian flag.

Columbus is widely thought to have been born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy, the son of wool trader Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa.
Other theories, however, argue that the explorer was born in Spain, his real name being Cristóbal Colón.

None of what Columbus is known to have written is in Italian, which would seem at least a bit odd for an Italian-born-and-raised mariner.
In fact, letters to Columbus brother and to the Bank of Genoa were written in Spanish.

Columbus wrote in Castilian Spanish, but wasn't a native speaker, says historian Charles Merrill, who points as evidence to some of the phonetic mistakes Columbus made.

"There was some other romance language behind it, most likely Catalan," Merrill says. "The mistakes he made were consonant with his being a Catalan. One of the first big publishing successes was his Letter from the Indies. It was published in Rome in Latin but was said to be translated from the Spanish idiom, most likely from Catalan."

In addition, Columbus' handwriting — his way of making letters — seems to have been peculiar to Catalan and looked like Catalan letters.

Columbus' handwriting appears to be that of someone who had learned to write at a young age, which could contradict the theory that he was the unschooled son of a wool weaver who didn't learn to write until much later in life. Experts describe it as handwriting of the upper-middle class.

Columbus' son, Hernando, amassed lots of books, from his father, mostly, and there was a catalog of them. One of the items listed (the item itself is missing) is the Letter from the Indies — written in Catalan.

07/21/06 2:42 pm

Other theories? You THINK he was a Spaniard? He wrote and spok

Other theories? You THINK he was a Spaniard?

He wrote and spoke in Spanish because he sailed for Spain. Infact, he himself NEVER stepped foot on North or South American soil.

Columbus's base of operations was the island of Hispanola, now known today as the Dominican Republic and Haiti. His palace located in Santo Domingo is a major tourist attraction. He sent his fleet to the Americas and the various surrounding islands to claim whatever land masses they found in the name of Spain.

How's that for something you'll never learn in a history book mojo?

If Columbus was from Genoa, Italy — as history has traditiona

If Columbus was from Genoa, Italy — as history has traditionally suggested — there would seemingly have been no reason for him to conceal his nationality. But many historians have suggested that Columbus apparently wanted to hide something.
In the late 1400s, Genoese were well regarded in Castile, the central part of present-day Spain. Many held positions of authority and many were considered skilled seamen. But no known document exists in which Columbus explicitly states his origins. Why?

One theory is that if Columbus was from Catalonia — and not Genoa — he had good reason to hide his origins.

Catalonia, a rebellious and culturally distinct region of what is now Spain, fought a civil war against the father of King Fernando of Spain. King Fernando and Queen Isabel — Columbus' royal patrons — made it a point to exclude and punish the Catalans for the uprising.
Also consider:

The Genoese ambassadors present in Barcelona in 1493 on Columbus' return don't refer to him as a fellow citizen;
Columbus' royal patrons never referred to his nationality, as was done with other foreigners (such as Amerigo Vespucci);
Columbus' first biographer, his son Hernando, indicated that Columbus wanted to leave his origins in obscurity (although the original Spanish version of the biography has been lost, and some historians think the early chapters were written by someone else).
