Building & Construction Trades Council throws support to Lautenberg
By Megan Stewart, Politicker.com ReporterU.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-Cliffside Park) has nabbed the endorsement of the New Jersey State Building & Construction Trades Council this afternoon following his overwhelming victory in the Democratic primaries on Tuesday.
Previously, the Building Trades Council supported Lautenberg's challenger, U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews (D-Haddon Heights), but today announced its support for Lautenberg and both Republican and Democratic congressional candidates.
In a statement released Friday, the group's president, William T. Mullen, said: "Following an extensive screening process, our council's member-unions have unanimously endorsed a bipartisan slate of candidates who have demonstrated an understanding of labor's needs and a willingness to work with us in implementing a strong pro-worker agenda for America."
Mullen also emphasized the importance of electing candidates who "share in our vision of economic revitalization and fairness in the workplace."
He stated that he plans to motivate and unify members across the state to "deliver victories to all of our NJB&CTC-endorsed candidates."
New Jersey's Building Construction Trades Council represents more than 150,000 building trades members across the state in 13 county councils and 15 international unions.
