NJN news chief to retire
By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterWilliam Jobes, the Director of News and Public Affairs at NJN for the last 21 years, is retiring next month, according to the network.
Network spokeswoman JoAnne Ruscio said that a successor has not yet been named.
“From Governor Tom Kean to Governor Jon Corzine, Jobes has guided the newsroom in its coverage of issues and policies and legislative actions – providing facts and commentary to keep NJN’s viewers and the state’s residents well-informed about their government,” read a statement from the network.
Jobes began his media career with several Virginia dailies, and moved up to the Washington Star, where he worked from 1972-1978. He joined NJN in 1980, and was named executive producer of NJN News in 1983 before being picked for the top newsroom slot in 1987.
During his time in the position, NJN won the Philadelphia Regional Chapter’s Mid-Atlantic Emmy award for Outstanding News Broadcast three times: in 1990, 1996 and 2003.
