Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced that he is appointing Commissioner of Community Affairs Susan Bass Levin as Deputy Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The former Mayor of Cherry Hill will take the post vacated by Jamie Fox earlier this year.
In March, PoliticsNJ.com reported on speculation that Levin would take the Port Authority Post, and that outgoing Senate Majority Leader Bernard Kenny would replace her as DCA Commissioner.

only in Nj
You just can't make this stuff up. She screws the pooch in her current position so Corzine gives her a more powerful position. Maybe he forgave a loan for her as well.
Qualifications ??
The NJ Taxpayer wants to know just what qualifications do you need to collect tolls and spend the money on Art and tickets to the Met for the NY/ NJ elite.??
not the best choice, but OK
generally this has gone to someone w/ some NY political or business connections. I'm not sure she's the "best" choice, but surely she's competent enough to manage a budget and staff.
As for negotiating multi-billion dollar deals w/ NYC and NY State, I guess we'll see.
Adios Asselta
Kenney does not need this job. The politically smart thing to do would be to offer it to Asselta and then Van Drew can run unopposed.
Levin is a clown.
Susan Bass Levin is without question one of the biggest fools ever to serve in state government. She was nothing but an apologist for the Meadowlands EnCap disaster that has blown up in her face. Nothing like getting pushed up instead of fired. Who is going to hire her for that kind of money based on her track record of failure?
It's nicet to have friends in high places. In the end, the taxpayer just gets screwed....
This fool would screw-up a ham sandwich, much less run the Port Authority.
Susan Bass Levin is the CORRECT choice
She is by far the only leader in politics that is involved in every part of the business. She is a great leader and the Port Authority is lucky to have her. She is driven and focused which NJ sure needs.
S. B. Levin
Are you shill for SBL? If you are not already in the pr business,
I will be happy to write a recommendation for you!
Levin to Port Authority
Homerun for the Port Authority and NJ! Levin has been a go-to leader in NJ for over 20 years. She's bright, tough, and gets things done. In a state known for its political hacks, it's refreshing that someone w/ Levin's skills has remained in NJ government. Kudos to Corzine for making the call..... NJ couldn't ask for a better advocate at the Authority!
LEVIN - PAY BACKS
SBL is not and has never been qualified to be in State Government. She distroyed Cherry Hill - a great town that Mayor Maria Greenwald worked so hard to make world class. You just have to wonder what is going through Gov. Corzine's head???? I guess it's a result of his most recent car injuries.
Time to rethink the Port Authority
With all the waste fraud and abuse it is time to dissolve this white elephant. It costs the taxpayers a fortune and is an artificial barrier to commerce.
hold your enemies closer?
Not sure why Corzine would give Norcross any new footing in North Jersey, especially with SBL gaining access to such a cash cow. Look for a CRDA-like financing scheme that expands the PANYNJ's economic development responsibilities right on down the Turnpike to exit 3 and watch the SJ dems start folding on asset monetization.
RIGHT CHOICE FOR PORT
Corzine made the right choice in appointing Levin to the Port. He needs someone there who is an advocate for NJ and has the skills to negotiate with NY.
Levin is that person.
Now, who will the gov appoint to replace her at DCA?
The Right Choice for PA
Susan is a very good choice for the PA. She is a tough negotiator and administrator. She will continue, where Jamie Fox left off, in making sure that NJ gets its fair share of port dollars....Kudos to Corzine for doing the right thing for NJ.
Levin is a joke.
Who could possibly believe this woman has an ounce of competence?
Look what she did with the EnCap Holdings fiasco.
This is a terrible appointment and just another example of raw political patronage to someone who can't find the front door to the statehouse.
Levin: A winner in all ports of call
In Cherry Hill and Trenton, Susan Bass Levin always "kept the trains running on time." Now that it's real trains and more, look for her to deliver the same remarkable performance for the Port Authority.
Levin's PR staff
Susan Bass Levin has an army of publicists on the public payroll. Just look at her MySpace page (a.k.a. Dept. of Community Affairs website). Maybe PoliticsNJ should examine the registration profiles of the positive commenters--they sound like shills for the relentlessly self-promoting commissioner.
PS--Read Levin's self-absorbed speech to Rowan University(http://www.state.nj.us/dca/speeches.shtml): "I read Faulkner and Shakespeare, and watched foreign films, and listened to professors lecture about Russian history, and debated the meaning of life until 3 in the morning...."
i see SBL..
....is pretty good at laying astroturf.
I feel she's far too ignorant to realize what bad "netiquitte" that sort of thing is.
SBL's track record from my persepctive (a liberal from cherry hill) has been thoroughtly underwhelming. i jope the GOP realizes that many of us on the otherside are scratching our heads too.
as for mustering up fake grassroots support online? well that tells me everything i need to know.
