Reacting to a report that New Jersey motor-voter registration signature cards were lost in the mail and in Bermuda, Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean issued the following statement:
"It is critical that the Division of Elections conduct a through and complete investigation of the motor-voter registration process to ensure that people's constitutional rights are protected and no person is denied the right to vote based on Trenton bureaucratic incompetence. The citizens of New Jersey must be confident that their vote will count and not be lost to Trenton mismanagement or fraud."
Senator Kean was a prime sponsor of the bill implementing provisions of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 and creating the statewide voter registration system (P.L. 2005, c. 145).
