Claims that the Burlington County Democratic Party has been running a false and defamatory campaign against Freeholder Aubrey Fenton were validated today when KYW News Radio gave formal notice it was pulling an ad placed by the Democrats.
Jessica L. Schneider, Counsel for KYW, confirmed by letter that the radio station not only pulled the ad but also has launched an investigation.
“This is a dirty ad produced and purchased by a dirty Democrat campaign,” said Fenton. “They should be ashamed of themselves, and every voter in Burlington County should be put on notice that you can’t believe a single thing they say.”
Fenton said the ad “crossed the line” in a number of instances, but the most compelling falsehood was the Democrats’ claim that he was sued for nonpayment of property taxes. He responded by presenting the radio station with a signed affidavit affirming that, in fact, he has always paid his taxes.
“This campaign is about taxes alright,” said Fenton. “My running mate, Freeholder Stacey Jordan and I have cut county taxes. But our opponents are caught flatfooted, because both are local officials, and property taxes have gone up in both their towns.
“Rather than face the truth about their own tax and spend records, they are trying to fill the airwaves with lies about me,” he said.
Democrat Chris Brown ran for Evesham Council on the promise that he would end “double-digit” tax increases, but his first year on council taxes increased 27 percent. His running mate, Shamong Committeewoman Mary Anne Reinhart hasn’t fared any better; for the first time in years, on her watch, Shamong has imposed a local property tax.
