It looks like Haines for Senate

While Burlington County Republicans have not yet made final decision about the eighth district, it appears that County Clerk Philip Haines will run for the State Senate. He would replace Martha Bark, who announced last week that she would not seek re-election.

Republicans are expected to dump Assemblyman Larry Chatzidakis from their ticket and replace him with Scott Rudder, the former Mayor of Medford. Incumbent Francis Bodine, who had also been in danger of being replaced, will get at least one more term.

Wally,

Is Francis Bodine related to the Charles Bodine that once own the Camden Beer Company empire between 1920-1960?

Any historical insight would be appreciated.

Editor's Note: I'm not sure if he is related to Charles Bodine, or even to former Senate President Samuel Bodine, who represented Hunterdon County in the State Senate from 1944 to 1954. He went to the Senate when Wesley Lance (Leonard's father) resigned to go on active duty during World War II. He pursued the GOP nomination for Governor in 1953, but dropped out when County Chairmen picked Paul Troast; he became the Republican State Chairman. You might ask Franny Bodine; he was born in 1936 and would probably know.

The Republican corruption in Burlington County runs far and deep: Scott Rudder's father, Walter, was the one who hired Bark for her no-show job at Burlington County Institute of Technology. Now the son is reaping the benefits of his father's patronage deal with Bark.

That is a bold faced lie Michael Martin. You better have concrete facts backing you up on this one. Scott has done a lot of work - on his own to get where he is. Too bad you don't have the guts to put your money where your mouth is and run for office in Haddonfield. I bet you get your butt kicked.

Facts once again getting in the way of your skewed worldview, still-anonymous theoc? We know that Scott Rudder's father, Walter, hired Bark for the no-show job at BCIT. Now, the son reaps the rewards of the patronage deal for the father. That isn't under dispute. Now that Bark is retiring in disgrace, the next in line for political patronage is getting his shot.

That website is a farce and a joke. Using it as fact makes you look even more pathetic. The website was started by an anti-Rudder voter whose wife was attempting to to get elected to the town council. It has since been purchased by Tim Kearns. But the article you cite is pre-Kearns and has zero thruth to it. Just shows that you can only cite items that are not truthful which everyone on this board has clearly seen. The fact is that Dr. Rudder did not "hire" Senator Bark, the school board did. Dr. Rudder is not a member of the school board. In fact, the school board approved her employment at an open meeting. So you and your ridiculous website contiue to peddle rumor and innuendo which have no basis in fact. "Those who can't do, teach." Must be recess.

Lets recap the 2006 elections results

1. Democrats win the surrogate seat.
2. Democrats maintain control in Pemberton.
3. Democrats win control of Riverside.
4. Democrats gain a seat in Mount Laurel for the first time in 20 years
5. Democrats win control of Delanco.
6. Democrats maintain control in Edgewater Park.
7. Democrats pick up an additional seat in Moorestown.
8. Democrats win a seat in Delran for the first time in a long time.
9. Democrats pick up 2 seats in West Hampton for the first time in a long time.

The Colonel is way to busy rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic to even realize that he is in way over his head!!! I can not wait until 2007 races begin. Off to Evesham to kick some Republican %$#@

1. Enough with the Martha bark "scandal." She did something legal and it waqs on public record years before anyone cared to notice.

2. The Dems had wins in Burlington County last year for reasons unrelated to their actual strength. The 8th district is still solidly Republican.

3. Look for a GOP primary in the 8th anyway.

7 Dem,

In what is being called the hardest year to run as a Republican in a lifetime, let see what happened throughout Burlington County.

Let's Recap the 2006 Election...

1. republicans maintain a 5-0 majority on the Freeholder Board by defending 2 seats.
2. Beverly City - Republicans won 5 seats and control for the first time in 66 years.
3. Bordentown Twsp - Republicans maintain control
4. Delran - Control was up and Republicans maintain control
5. Eastampton - Republicans win 2 seats
6. Hainesport - Republican win
7. Lumberton (home of Chris Fifis) - Republicans win
8. Mansfield - Republicans win
9. Medford Lakes - Republicans win...Dems dont even field candidates
10. New Hanover - Republicans gain 2 seats one of which was held by the Democrat Freeholder candidate
11. North Hanover - Republicans win
12. Pemberton Boro - republicans win...Dems do not field candidates
13. Riverton - Republicans win
14. Shamong - Republicans win
15. Southampton - Republicans win...Dems do not field candidates
16. Springfield - Republicans win
17. Tabernacle - Republicans win

While Democrats throughout the state and nation were upsetting Republican strongholds, the Burlco Dems (Perr and Meyer) were unable to even come close to winning a Freeholder seat. Burlington County currently has about 200 more registered Reublicans than Democrats and the Democrat organization failed to even ruffle the Republicans feathers. Keep in mind that this type of national climate only comes long once in a lifetime. I guess Meyer will be looking for another job....again.

Doonesbury,

I am sorry but did you say that 2006 hardest year to run as a Republican in a lifetime???? Please give me a break!! I think Watergate may have been a little harder. By the way, werent you the guys who panicked in 2004 and brought every national Republican under the sun into the county including your beloved President??? Now you sit here, make excuses and cry how the national Republicans hurt your ticket in 2006.

Perr whipped your &^%$ with limited money. I can only imagine what he would have done if he had your war chest. Now stop crying and get down to Evesham because you are in for the fight of your life!!!

I wonder what the spin doctors are going to come up with next when the Democrats continue their success and win Evesham.

Martha Bark, who until recently has been under criminal investigation until she resigned her post, is one of the most corrupt state senators in the state. Several of her no-show "jobs" at BCIT were facilitated by the superintendent of education, Walter Rudder, who also tried to dissuade any investigation into said jobs, despite the fact that they were offered to Bark without any competition, not made public, and with no records kept. Now, the patronage dealing has reached a crescendo because his son has received his quid pro quo reward: Scott Rudder is now running for one of the Republican Assembly positions. Keep in mind that, besides the Bark scandal, this is the same county Republican party where GOP lobbyist Robert Stears cheated taxpayers from his lobbyist group, the same one where GOP state chair Tom Wilson worked, with non-jobs charged to the Bridge Commission; it's the same corrupt Republican organization which gave Forrester's prescription company a contract for services -- this despite said services being the highest one competing -- because of money he gave to the county Republicans; and the Stears corruption charges went all the way to aides to state Sen. Allen from BurlCo. Shady contracts, patronage deals, and cheating taxpayers: These are the hallmarks of the Burlington County Republican party.

Most corrupt state senator in the state? I think Wayne Bryant has got her beat. She was cleared by the ethics panel of wrong doing Marty. But I guess facts shouldn't matter in Martyland. Continuing that thought, why should we be surprised that you again can't be factual when talking about the Rudders? Dr. Rudder did not hire Sen. Bark, the school board did. But you continue to claim he "facilitated" her hiring for "no-show" jobs. If you have proof, you should bring it to the attention of law enforcement officials. But I am sure you read it off of some blog which has zero truth to it - much like your blog. And I am curious to see how critical you are of Rick Perr who appears to have steered business towards his wife's firm? People who live in glass houses...

An apologist for corruption, nepotism, and patronage deals in the state, particularly the corrupt Burlington County Republican Party, is complicit with those very machinations. Poorly done, Theoc, poorly done.

Still Anonymous Theoc: Which claim are you disputing? That Walter Rudd wasn't superintendent of Education when Martha Bark was hired for her no-show jobs? Here's a That all is peachy-keen and ethical in the BurlCo Republican Party? Now, it seems that since a patronage deal was given to Bark, and the BurlCo Republicans sleaze machine was continued, the son reaps the rewards from the father's actions. You seem to be complicit with the corruption in BurlCo. Very sad.
