MICCO FOR CONGRESS
Bergen, Passaic, Hudson Counties
Rutherford NJ -- Ninth District Republican Congressional candidate Vince Micco says he is honored to attend tonight’s NRA meeting at the Fiesta restaurant in Bergen County.
Micco, an Iraq War Veteran, enjoys a top rating from the National Rifle Association and says he supports the Second Amendment.
“With the erosion of personal liberties in America caused by people on the far left who want to impose all kinds of restrictions on personal behavior and speech, it is more important than ever to stand up for the rights of the citizens granted by the Bill of Rights,” said Micco.
Micco said he fully supports the latest U.S. Supreme Court decision involving gun ownership in the Washington DC case District of Columbia V. Heller.
In that case, the Supreme Court, led by Justice Antonin Scalia overturned Washington DC’s ban on handguns for the use of self-defense in the home.
At the time of the June 26 decision the NRA hailed the decision as “ a great moment in American history. It vindicates individual Americans all over this country who have always known that this is their freedom worth protecting.
Micco agrees, saying that Scalia was brilliant in arguing that gun ownership is an individual right, not a collective right
“The right of law abiding individuals to legally purchase and lawfully use firearms is one of the most sacred rights we have as a free society,” said Micco. “Erosion of those rights will not make America safer, it will make America a more dangerous place because criminals will still get their hands on guns no matter how many laws we pass.”
Micco also said it is important for lawmakers to stand up for the rights of people who like to shoot or hunt. “Millions of people use guns for recreation every day without incident. Why should we allow leftist groups that hate guns and hate hunting to dictate to people who use guns responsibly?” said Micco.
