MICCO SAYS DEMOCRAT FEAR MONGERING ON OFFSHORE DRILLING IS HURTING FAMILIES

RUTHERFORD -- Republican congressional candidate Vince Micco says Gov. Jon Corzine and New Jersey’s Democratic congressional delegation are condemning motorists and homeowners to high gasoline and heating oil bills by failing to support off shore drilling for oil and natural gas.  

Micco, 36, said with 17.8 billion barrels of crude oil and 76 trillion cubic feet of natural gas off of America’s coastline waiting to be tapped, the nation could increase world supply of oil and lower, or at least halt the escalation in prices. (*numbers cited by the US Department of the Interior) 

“Instead of addressing the nation’s energy problems in a comprehensive way, New Jersey’s Democrat politicians are resorting to scare tactics to oppose anything that might increase our nation’s energy independence,” said Micco.

Micco said offshore drilling is not the sole answer to escalating oil prices, but, “its part of multipart strategy the nation must employ to lower the cost of energy and make the nation more energy independent.”

“We need to invest in wind power and solar energy and other renewable energy technologies, but we are years away from the point where those sources of energy can support an entire state or region,” said Micco. 

“We need to tap into available oil supplies now to ensure that in five years we have the energy we need to power our economy and to keep our nation secure,” add Micco, an Iraq War veteran.

Micco said the liberal mindset of Gov. Corzine, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and Democrat and Ninth District Rep.  Steve Rothman who opposes offshore drilling “is designed to heap misery on working people, not to help them.” 

 “Corzine, Menendez and Rothman are so out of touch with the average suburban family, it’s tragic,” said Micco. “They have no idea what the average working family has to go through in the course of day to get to work, or transport their children to places they have to go. All the Jersey Democrats care about is pandering to the radical left’s extreme environmental agenda. 

Micco, a father of four, said Gov. Corzine lives in city where everything is in walking distance and he gets chauffeured to work in an SUV paid for by taxpayers.

“The governor has no idea what life is like in the suburbs and I doubt he even knows what a gallon of gas costs,” said Micco.  “When was the last time he went to a gas station and filled his tank?” 

Micco said Rothman has been in Congress for a dozen years and has done nothing to promote energy independence for America. “What did Steve Rothman do to promote energy independence when Bill Clinton was in the White House?  Nothing.” 

Micco said Rothman is part of the Barack Obama ‘just say no crowd,’ when it comes to energy independence.

“They say no to nuclear power, no to drilling for more oil, no to drilling for natural gas. The only thing they say yes to is higher taxes,” said Micco.

 “Instead of fear mongering about oil spills at the beach, Corzine and Rothman should show some compassion for the families trying to afford gasoline to drive to the beach,” concluded Micco.
