Hatch applauds Christie pick of Ashcroft

U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch today defended U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie’s decision to award former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft a federal monitor contract worth up to $52 million.
“I don’t know anyone better than Ashcroft to do it, because if it’s not done right, that could severely damage the company,” Hatch told PolitickerNJ.com today.
Attorney General Michael Mukasey told the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee today that the Justice Department continues to look into how federal oversight contracts are assigned. Mukasey acknowledged that deferred prosecution agreements had recently become more common, and said that he was offered one before becoming Attorney General.
"Yes, we are looking at the phenomenon," the Star-Ledger reported him as saying. "Yes, we are going to see if there should be standards."
Hatch is a former Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman.

Given the damage Ascroft did to the Department of Justice that's just stupid.

Take your potshots at Ashcroft (its a given that any Christian in government will get plenty of potshots from the left) but at least he didn't cause anyone to be killed in Waco or have a little kid removed from a house at machine gunpoint. The Justice Department was plenty damaged when he took it over.

I'm sorry, I didn't get the memo about how only republicans are Christian...I guess I better talk to my Pastor about that. What a stupid comment....maybe we don't like Ashcroft because he supported torture. Or maybe we don't like him getting $52,000,000 of the taxpayer monies just because he's connected. Maybe we don't like the way Chris Christie went about giving that much money to a friend and then hypocritcally blasts anyone in NJ that does the same thing. I'm sure you'll justify how this happened and how good it is...which is sad, really.
