There is great news from the two national parties, which have both decided to hold “green conventions” in 2008. From carbon offsets to confetti made from recycled paper, the two parties are clearly taking this challenge seriously and are developing innovative solutions to curb their impact on the environment.
The decisions to hold “green conventions” are significant for two reasons. First, it sets an appropriate example. Although the national conventions are only two, relatively short events, the signal this will send to Americans is a strong one. It shows that our elected leaders are conscious of their collective impact on the environment and are willing to do something about it. Secondly, this shows that environment protection has become an important issue for both parties. As a life-long Republican, I am very proud of my own party which has a long and proud history on this issue. Of course, it is the platforms on the environment which the two parties will write in these conventions that are most important. Holding a green convention at least sets the right tone for considering these important environmental issues.

This is really stupid
what a waste of party money. Of course Bush as El Presidente will have the entire convention in Spanish as a favor to all his illegal alien friends (the only ones he as left after betraying his base with Shamnasty)
Take Nadler to Court
It is unacceptable for a Congressman to say you maliciously and purposely wanted to cause harm to rescue workers and New Yorkers in the area. That man is a political hack, those types of comments are not acceptable. The government did the best it could, mistakes were probably made, but the Bush/Whitman-Pataki-Giuliani leadership did the best they could in the chaotic time. I recommend you sue Congressman Nadler. Legally he has complete unrestricted freedom of speech during a Congressional hearing and while on the floor of the House, however, that does not apply to the press conference where he made that remark. What he said was out of line. Sue him and you will win.
A NY LOSER
His looks tell it all. Another worthless NY politician with a big mouth and body to go with it.
As I know you are, from experience, Governor Whitman to be a GOOD person and your acceptance to what was obviously a stacked audience yesterday you showed your true LEADERSHIP ability by standing your ground for Honesty and Truthfulness.
These two abilities neither of which those DEMOCROOKS on this subcommittee can say they have.
Off the deep end
Bill C. hit it right on the nose. Between the eco-freaks and the illegals, NCLB and the Prescription Drug bill, and of course his war, Bush has managed to completely destroy the Reagan legacy.
We are now finding in a number of towns that were competitive recently Republicans running third behind "Don't Know" in generic ballots.
But at least we will have a "Green" convention.
Green Conventions
First, as an aside, how many threads do Whitman and Toriccelli have to start before we start addressing their substantive ideas and not attacking them on ancillary, personal issues?
Regarding green conventions, this is indeed a very good idea, and, if nothing else, sends the right message on the environment and "the human footprint," if you will, to the country.
I'm afraid that I respectfully disagree with Whitman when she mentions that the proud Republican tradition on the environment is alive and well. The days of Teddy Roosevelt Republican conservation are far, far in the past, and the Regan and Bush administrations have been downright hostile to clean air, clean water, and other laws to when it comes to the environment.
Finally, I am proud to say that I'm a supporter of the first 2008 presidential candidate who made his campaign carbon neutral, and that's former Sen. John Edwards.
Sybolism over substance
This so-called "green convention" blather is just another dog and pony show to make everyone feel good about themselves for 15 minutes. When the convention is over, all the participants can pat themselves on the back for bringing this visionary event to fruition as they drive off in their Hummers, Escalades and stretch limo's.
Another Republican Goes Insane
Christie: Have you bought into the great global warming swindle also? Has Al Gore hoodwinked you too? Do you know how many prominent scientists think man made global warming is hogwash? Bush is buying into this crap now too. You Republicans better start standing for something and stop following the looney dems on issues like man made gloabl warming and immigration or you are going to find yourself without a party. Carbon offsets for confetti.....give me a nausea bag please. Bush, Whitman and McCain, faux republicans running out of ideas and soon to be forgotten.
Head of the EPA .....Hmmm.
Do you still think Whitperson is competent?
"Ain't a dimes worth of differnce!"
Hmmm
There is no Republican Conscience.
Now how are we competent?
Do I actually agree with "Lord"
I think so.
MadMax
You may be right that is why I am lobbying for the gig.
"The ultimate decision about what is acceptable as right and wrong will be made not by individual wisdom but by the disappearance of the groups that have adhered to the 'wrong' beliefs." - F. A. Hayek
Green Conventions, what a crock!
You want to curtail global warming? Get all of the idiots at these conventions to shut up! The reduction of hot air would be able to off-set at least 100 or 200 new coal fired power plants. Just shutting up Gore and Clinton would be a major environmental event!
