GOVERNOR CORZINE NAMES REMAINING MEMBERS OF
JUDICIAL ADVISORY PANEL
TRENTON - Governor Jon S. Corzine today named the remaining members of the Judicial Advisory Panel charged with assisting the governor evaluate candidates for the New Jersey Superior Court.
“I am confident that this esteemed group will help ensure that we appoint only the highest caliber of qualified attorneys to the bench who will ensure a fair and impartial administration of justice,� said Governor Corzine. “I will rely greatly on their evaluations in deciding whether to nominate a candidate to the court, and I thank the panel members for their dedication to New Jersey’s Judiciary.�
In September, the Governor signed Executive Order 36 to establish the seven-member panel and named retired Justices James Coleman, Jr., Alan B. Handler and Stewart Pollock.
They will be joined by former Chief Justice Deborah Poritz; retired N.J. Appellate Division Judge Harold Wells; Carlos Ortiz, Esq., General Counsel to Goya Foods, Inc.; and Susan Lederman, Ph.D., Professor of Public Administration at Kean University.
Justices Coleman and Pollack will serve as co-chairs of the panel, which will begin immediately to assist the Governor Counsel’s Office review candidates to the New Jersey Superior Court.
Under the Executive Order, the panel is to consist of up to seven members, at least five of whom are retired judges. In addition, the panel may include up to two public members who are either non-lawyers or non-practicing lawyers. Members of the panel serve for a term of five years.
