'Disingenuous' Jon Corzine
Corzine finally criticizes McGreevey; admits he doesn't always mean what he says

(WEST WINDSOR, NJ) - In last night's New Jersey 101.5 Gubernatorial Debate, Jon Corzine finally got around to criticizing the administration of disgraced former Governor Jim McGreevey[1] - and Corzine admitted that he doesn't always mean what he says.

Until last night, Corzine's only criticism of McGreevey on record is when Corzine expressed his frustration at McGreevey's failure to increase New Jersey's gasoline tax.[2]

"Now, four weeks from Election Day, Corzine finally pronounces McGreevey a failure of leadership," said Forrester for Governor Campaign Director Sherry Sylvester. "Corzine didn't criticize McGreevey when he raised the income tax. He didn't criticize McGreevey when he added thousands of patronage jobs to the State payroll. He didn't criticize McGreevey when he bloated the budget by another $4 billion in a single year. He didn’t criticize McGreevey for putting his close personal friend Golan Cipel in charge of New Jersey's safety and security."

NJ101.5 News Director and debate moderator Eric Scott asked Corzine whether he was being "disingenuous" when he praised McGreevey at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004.[3] Corzine responded by saying, "I was standing at a political event at the Democratic National Convention."[4] When pressed by Scott, Corzine repeated, "We're standing at a convention," admitting that he says things "in a political forum" that he does not necessarily believe - which calls into question the sincerity of every other statement Corzine has ever made.

I've said that I don't - I don't cotton to the performance he had. There are some good things he did... But on balance, it was a failed governorship."
