Belmar, NJ
-Today New Jersey Citizen Action's Political Action Committee announced its endorsement of Jim Reilly and Matt Doherty for State Assembly. As the state's largest citizen watchdog coalition, New Jersey Citizen Action pays careful attention to the critical issues facing New Jerseyans around the state."NJCA's PAC is impressed with Reilly and Doherty's concerns for affordable, quality healthcare for working families and seniors," said Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, NJCA Executive Director. "We applaud their support for important initiatives that will expand prescription drug coverage and improve patients' rights."
NJCA was also pleased that both Reilly and Doherty have publicly denounced President Bush's plan to privatize the Social Security system and throw it to the whim of the stock markets. Their stance sets them apart from their opponents who failed to side with their constitutions telling Congress and President Bush to keep their hands off Social Security. Since Mid-February NJCA and coalition partners in NJ and across the country have been fighting back the Bush scheme.
"It is important that our state elected officials take a position on this issue, Reilly and Doherty understand that privatizing Social Security would create significant cuts for NJ citizens and affect our state budget and programs," said Salowe-Kaye.
"I am proud to receive the endorsement of the premiere citizen's watchdog and consumer advocacy group in New Jersey," said 11th District Democratic Assembly candidate Matt Doherty. "Jim and I look forward to working alongside Citizen Action as we fight to protect Social Security, prevent any proposed gas tax, and work to protect and expand the rights of New Jersey residents to ensure that our elected officials respond to our needs."
"This endorsement demonstrates that Matt and I stand for citizen's and consumer rights and against the special interests," said 11th District Democratic Assembly candidate Jim Reilly. "I am proud to receive the New Jersey Citizen Action endorsement and look forward to working with them in the Assembly."
The committee was especially impressed with their support for the Fair and Clean Elections Pilot Program, an innovative new law that will help change the very nature of our system of campaign finance by eliminating the large private donations that have strained our system.
There are clear difference between Jim Reilly and Matt Doherty and their opponents on a wide range of issues NJCA cares about-healthcare, public education, lower utility rates, fair housing and Community Reinvestment.
NJCA's PAC is urging all of its members to vote for Jim Reilly and Matt Doherty for Assembly.
New Jersey Citizen Action is the state's largest independent citizen watchdog coalition representing over 100 affiliated organizations including labor, tenant, senior, religious, environmental, disability and community groups and 60,000 family members.
