Devine arrested as dead beat dad

James Devine, a troubled and controversial former Union County Democratic operative who publishes three weekly newspapers in central New Jersey, was arrested this morning for failure to pay $20,000 in child support and alimony as part of a sweep of dead beat dads.  He is currently in a county jail, with bail set at $5,000.  Devine owns the News Record, The Patriot, and The Atom Tabloid & Citizen-Gazette.

I wonder..

I wonder if Undersheriff Joe Cryan, a target of Devine's many rants, will allow him to have conjugal visits?

What About Ray Lesnaik?

No, but you have to wonder if the story in the News Tribune tomorrow will contain a comment from Senator Ray Lesniak, Jimmy's "bestest" friend for all those years.

After all, Ray was the guy who ensured that Jimmy's had paid legal advertising in his papers from all the towns in Rays district ensuring that Jimmy wrote vicious attack pieces about Rays detractors, and puff pieces for Rays friends.  That is, until their falling out!  That's the way it works with the nickel news.

Nobody ever bought his papers for the stories, folks!

And will Rahway Mayor James Kennedy have something nice to say about Jimmy, after Devine promoted him for all those years?

My guess is, the answer is no.  They've moved on, and Jimmy became a wild hair.

political prisoner

Devine will claim that this was a set up for his support of the Independent ticket.  Except that there was a "Father's Day" round up before the Election, too.

Maybe Adrian Mapp will bail him out.
