CALIGUIRE CALLS ON DONOVAN TO FIRE HER CAMPAIGN MANAGER AND DISAVOW ENDORSEMENT OF RENEGADE BOGOTA COUNCILMAN
Donovan Team Surrounded By Democrat Supporters
Hackensack -- Republican County Executive candidate Kathleen Donovan should immediately fire her campaign managers and others in her camp who have actively worked and continue to work to elect Democrats, says Bergen GOP County Executive Candidate Todd Caliguire.
Caliguire said that Donovan's campaign manager Alan Marcus has a long history of giving financial support to Democrats -- including donating to Democrat political action committees that funneled money in to Bergen County to help defeat local Republicans.
Caliguire said his campaign recently uncovered that Marcus donated at least $2,000 to the New Directions PAC of Middlesex County Democrat Powerbroker John Lynch. That money was part of a $4,400 donation given to Bergen County Democrat Sheriff Leo McGuire in 2004. Lynch's PAC also donated $10,000 to the Bergen Democrats in 2002. Lynch is currently under federal investigation for his influence peddling. His PAC is headed by, among others, Marcus' long time associate Teaneck attorney and Democrat Party insider Robert DeCotiis. "Kathe Donovan's campaign manager helped defeat Republican Joel Trella for sheriff in 2004," said Caliguire. "His money helped beat Republicans in Bergen County and yet she continues to follow his direction and wants him to run our party."
"I am calling on Kathe Donovan today, that she immediately renounce her campaign manager and fire him," said Caliguire. "Kathe is showing an egregious lack of judgment by allowing Alan Marcus to run her campaign."
Besides donating to Lynch's New Directions PAC, Marcus has also donated to other prominent Democrats, including Bill Clinton, Robert Menendez and Jon Corzine.
"This primary election is about who really is going to represent the values of the Republican Party. I think people who give money to Democrats powerbrokers like John Lynch, who is a sworn enemy of the New Jersey Republican party, have no right to play a role in the Republican Party."
BOGOTA TURNCOAT
Caliguire and his running mate John Scalzo are also calling on Donovan to disavow the endorsement of Bogota GOP Councilman George Silos, who at a May 17 Borough Republican Club meeting openly announced he is endorsing the Democrat candidates for borough council.
"It's an absolute outrage that Mr. Silos, would become a traitor to his party," said Scalzo. "It is more outrageous that Kathe Donovan would accept his endorsement and work with him to undermine the Republican Party in Bogota."
Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan said he has worked diligently to keep the borough in Republican control for 11 years, but that control is now threatened by renegades such as Silos and the backing he is receiving from Donovan and Marcus.
"It's obvious to me that the Donovan Team is out to destroy the Republican Party in Bergen County," said Lonegan.
