Senator Thomas Kean (R-Union), 39, is the Senate Minority Leader and the scion of one of New Jersey’s oldest political families. He is a graduate of Dartmouth University and is completing his doctoral dissertation in international relations at Tufts University. He won an Assembly seat in a 2001 special election and moved up to the Senate after a 2003 special election. He sought the GOP nomination for Congress in 2000, and was the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in 2006.
