Kathleen Donovan said today that she would use her powers as County Executive to work with local officials to combat over development throughout Bergen County.
Donovan, a candidate for County Executive, is running in the June 6 Republican primary. She and Freeholder running mates Elizabeth Randall and Ed Trawinski said that the current Democrat administration "has failed to work with local officials to check unrestrained overdevelopment which has become our number one quality of life issue."
Donovan, Randall and Trawinski pointed to major development projects in south Bergen which "choke our infrastructure and always seem to fail to meet the grandiose promises of taxpayer relief."
They continued, "Bergen County has become a developer's dream in recent years. We must reverse this trend and return to the quality of life which made Bergen a residents' paradise."
Donovan, Randall and Trawinski said that county government can play a major role in controlling over development. "First, our appointments to agencies which can impact development such as the Bergen County Planning Board, Bergen County and Northwest Bergen utilities authorities and the Bergen County Improvement Authority must work closely with local officials to make certain that any applications for permits received by those agencies have local endorsement. Moreover, any promises made by developers whether they be private or public must be supported by real dollars. Before any permits are issued all necessary or projected infrastructure...whether it be roads, sewers, schools or anything else...must be in place. Moreover, public and private developers must pay their fair share of local taxes and reach equitable agreement with local officials."
The candidates concluded, "Bergen County's infrastructure is being overwhelmed by development. Our roads, sewers and educational infrastructure are at or over capacity. We are committed to stopping over development before it totally undermines our quality of life."
Donovan, Randall and Traswinski along with Surrogate candidate Jae Kim are running under the banner "Bergen County Republicans, Inc." in column 3 in the June 6 Republican primary.

People like Kathleen Donovan, Alan Marcus and Jae Kim are simply nothing more than fencesitters that represent pretty much everything that's wrong with the Republican Party on a county as well as a statewide level.
These Christie Whitless Republicrats are all over the place throughout various county republican committees. These are the same kind of people who threw Bret Schundler to the wolves and stuck us with Jim McGreevey because they prefered to have a Democratic Governor rather than a real Conservative Republican.
These people are fake republicans and political opportunists who want to keep the conservative wing of the party down. So much so, that Marcus is going after Mayor Steve Lonegan in Bogota for being a conservative. Do they care that Bogota has one of the most stable tax rates in the state and that Steve Lonegan is an excellent Mayor? Of course not. Just like a liberal only cares about winning over actually accomplishing anything after getting into office.
Donovan, Marcus and Kim are nothing more than a splintered off group of liberal demogogues and if they are successful it will only assure a victory for Robert Menendez in November.
