Donovan Challenges Opponents to Repudiate Payroll Abuses Championed by Talarico
Bergen County and New Jersey can no longer afford part time political appointees receiving full time benefits, according to Kathleen Donovan candidate for Bergen County Executive. She said that she and her running mates "will lead by example and institute a series of significant reforms to curb pension and benefit abuses while protecting hard working public employees who provide meaningful services that benefit residents and taxpayers."
Donovan challenged her June primary opponents to make a similar commitment and join her in admonishing "one of the most blatant abusers of the system." According to Donovan, "BCRO chairman Guy Talarico gave his brother a series of low paying, pension and benefit enhancing positions during his nearly three terms in the General Assembly. George Talarico was one of a number of relatives and political appointees who enjoyed low paying, high benefit "jobs" courtesy of Guy Talarico but at taxpayer expense. This is the kind of abuse Republicans should be stopping and not perpetuating. Clearly Guy Talarico was part of the problem. He's a poster boy for political excess at taxpayer expense. His candidates should prove they're part of the solution by repudiating his past payroll practices."
Donovan was joined in her challenge by Freeholder candidates Elizabeth Randall and Ed Trawinski and Surrogate candidate Jae Kim. The candidates said that they would enthusiastically support Donovan's call for pension and benefit reform when elected noting, "We share Kathe's view that our party must assert leadership. Elected officials can no longer tolerate taxpayer abuse by political appointees. We can no longer afford business as usual. Unfortunately, that's exactly what Guy Talarico and his candidates represent."
They continued, "Kathe Donovan reformed the County Clerk's office and made it a consumer friendly and taxpayer efficient profit center returning millions of dollars to the state and county treasuries. She has the strength and commitment to implement the same kind of reforms to the county once elected County Executive. That's probably why Guy Talarcio fought so hard to deny the county committee the right to nominate Kathe in an open convention. Talarico's only means of continuing the failed political practices of the past is by supporting candidates who share his business as usual views."

Showing once again that this team is unscrupulous and don't have an original thought, Donovan's plan to take part-time politicians out of the full-time pension system actually belongs to Lauren Thomson, candidate for Freeholder on the BCRO line. Ms. Donovan's breath of the issues so far on the campaign trail have been expressed as, "vote for me, because I have been elected to office before." Someone needs to ask Ms. Donovan if she and Ms. Randall will give back their pension time from their terms in the Assembly?

As for Scalzo, remember it was Talarico who denied the county committee the opportunity to vote and sited some expired bylaws, now Talarico cries foul and doesn't want to follow NJ State law.
Talarico may be king of his personal sandbox called the BCRO but he is not above the law.
