ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF GOVERNOR’S RHETORIC NOT MATCHING REALITY
Assemblyman David Rible today said that Governor Corzine’s failure to meet a June 30 deadline for producing recommendations for achieving a goal of reducing state greenhouse gases is another example of Corzine’s rhetoric not being backed up by his actions.
“This issue was important enough for Governor Corzine to hold major events promoting the signing of the bill one year ago, but not important enough to meet the law’s first deadline,” said Rible, R-Monmouth. “Here is another example of the Governor seeking to grab positive publicity by pledging to tackle a tough issue, but then failing to follow-through with a real plan to achieve those goals.”
The Asbury Park Press today reported that the administration missed a June 30 deadline to produce a plan for complying with the Global Warming Response Act signed last year by Corzine, which requires the state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050.
The law required the state Department of Environmental Protection to release a report detailing how the state would meet the goals, and designating a panel to review these recommendations, by June 30. Rible said that New Jersey residents shouldn’t be surprised by the administration’s failure to comply with this deadline considering Corzine’s failure to back-up rhetoric about enacting tough ethics reforms and reducing the property tax burden.
“Just like pledges to provide permanent property tax relief and higher ethical standards for government, this global warming plan appears to have been put on the back burner,” Rible said. “The Governor has had plenty of time to invest in national Democrat Party politics. Perhaps he should refocus that energy on achieving goals here in New Jersey.”
