Rarely have two individuals with such similar personalities gone to work together. A clear victory for the editorial page at the Ledger.
It is truly remarkable how Alan Marcus has tried to convince the world that the Clerk of the Assembly is in any way a job of any importance whatsoever.
It is a lackey job. Doesn't event rate with the lowest of legislative aides. The cleark of the Assembly is a hare's breath more important than one of the sergeant at arms....the clerk just goesn't get a uniform.

Leave Alan Marcus alone! He is the most wonderful, sensitive, loving man I have ever known. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for making fun of this incredible man. Were any of you the Clerk at such a young age? And just look where he is now! You are just jealous of this great great man.

Actually Corrine, I'm annoyed that he attempted to usurp power of the BCRO from Guy Talarico by putting up a handful of Republicrats on an opposition ticket in the June Primary in a shameless attempt to divide Bergen's Republican voters.
Being a donor to Democrat campaigns in the past, his only goal was to help Democrats win in Bergen County since Dennis McNerney's grip on the County is slipping.
It still won't be enough.

CORRINE -- ALAN MARCUS IS THE MOST SENSITVE CARING MAN YOU'VE EVER KNOWN!?!
OK Corrine - that statement is a clear indication that "Corrine" is the nom de plume for Mrs. Marcus: that you desperately need to meet more men; or that Richard Aregood is wearing a dress and pretending to be "Corrine."
Let's go back to it. Alan "I'm the youngest person to ever be the clerk of the Assembly" Marcus held what is easily the least consequential job in the Legislature.
The Clerk doe not participate in any policy discussions, doesn't formulate political strategy, essentially it is a paperwork job where the Clerk (usually a retiree, political hack, or both) announces that a bill will be considered right before a vote is taken.
Although Alan will tell you that he and Tom kean ran the Assembly, Alan gets no mention from Kean in the new biography. He does get mentioned by the author when he mentions that marcus lobbied on behalf of Lowell Harwood in trying to block the construction of the NJPAC in Newark (see page 273 of the new book on Kean by Al Felzenberg).
You'd think that if Alan was even ten percent as important as he tells people he was as clerk of the Assembly, that Speaker Tom Kean would have mentioned him...at least in passing.
No, the fact is, Alan wants people to belive he "used to be" when in fact he never was.
Now, in fairness, he has accomplished a lot for someone who went to the elite Hun School but never even graduated from college.
Ah Corrine, that must be it, you have a spot for dumb rich guys!

Spend an hour with Alan Marcus and you'll think you were trying to pass a kidney stone while constipated with hemorhoids and shingles.
nobody looks forward to having to deal with him, and the people that do it regularly are called employees...so there's a bit of incentive there

never even graduated college? how about never went -- he was too busy being Nelson Gross lackey -- still no uniform but just as "important" as clerk Caring and loving -- that's not what the employees say. And that Pulitzer was in 1985 so they can both come out of moth balls and pat each other on the back. Kean wants nothing to do with him and that is obvious. READ FAST because these posts will be gone by tomorrow.

Alan Marcus and Nelson Gross, what a picture! Can't you just see Nelson Gross in the gold lame suit and Alan Marcus tooling around in Marcus' Lincoln Continental...Noel Love Gross chasing after them.
As hard as it is for me to feel any sorrow or sympathy for an editorial writer for the Ledger (Kathy Carter and Paul Wykoff nothwithstanding), I do feel sorry for Aregood. He was an edgy writer in Philadelphia who seemed to lose a bit of his sense of humor at the Ledger. But now having fallen to having to work for Alan Marcus is really a tremendous fall from grace!

To my friend republicantrueblue, you pretty much hit the nail on the head with Alan Marcus and I totally agree with you.
mojo- Kean will win in Bergen by a close margin and so will Todd Caliguire. The rest is a pretty tough call being that Bergen voters tend to pick and choose their candidates from both tickets rather than just voting straight down the line.
While the Hudson County Dems have been pumping money into Bergen for years and it has worked for them to an extent, Bergen can still go either way. For example, they'll vote for candidates on the Republican ticket if they want taxes lowered and if there are Democrats on the ballot who they feel have nothing to do with their tax burden they'll vote for a Democrat or two.
People like Alan Marcus know this and he knew that it would be very easy to split the Republican vote in the June Primary. With that being said, every Bergen County Republican is going to come out for Tom Kean Jr regardless of whether they're happy with who's running the BCRO or not.
Sen. Kean is the strongest Republican US Senate candidate New Jersey has had in decades and republican voters in Bergen and statewide will be quick to rally behind him.

Dino, put down the crack pipe. Caliguire is going to lose 60-40. He refuses to raise money because he is worried that someone who contributes might seek a job or contract in the unlikely event he is elected. He is a typical "reformer" who can't get out of his own way. He is an embarrassment to the conservatives who supported him in the primary and won only because he ran against someone who was to the left of Dennis McNerney. I doubt you will see Todd's name on any local GOP literature this year.

Listen Al, Dino doesn't do drugs my friend. He just enjoys the occasional scotch on the rocks with a martini chaser and that's only on weekends and/or on stage!
With that being said, I would agree with your analysis if not for two factors. The first one being that Bergen County voters aren't happy with Dennis McNerney at all and the second reason is that Sen. Kean at the top of the ticket will get him even more votes than he would under normal circumstances.
Dino also remembers very well that you've used that crackpipe line in my direction on more than one occasion and I strongly urge you to find some new material.
