Allen declines Senate run
By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterDespite calls from party leaders urging her to run, Republican state Sen. Diane Allen will not make a bid for U.S. Senate.
Allen, who’s been sick with pneumonia for two months, said that she’s not well enough to forge ahead with a statewide campaign.
“If I were 100% well and on my game I might have stepped in the day that Anne (Estabrook) stepped out, because I had been a strong supporter of hers, but there’s really no use in speculating,” she said. “I’m still sick and it’s going to be a long while before I’m back in shape.”
Allen said that she was called by six county chairmen and a number of other Republican insiders about the prospect of running, but couldn’t give it too serious consideration due to her condition. With local celebrity status from her years as a Philadelphia news anchor, some Republicans thought that she would be a good candidate to replace Anne Estabrook.
Allen ran in the Republican primary in 2002 for the same Senate seat, losing to Doug Forrester by about 17,000 votes.
“I need some time to go by to get back on my feet and get back into the swing of things in the state Senate. That’s where my priorities lie at this point,” she added.
Allen said that she does not know the new candidate, Andy Unanue, and has not yet decided who she will support for the Republican nomination.

She's in the "Win" party
She is more moderate than many Republicans, maybe too moderate for a statewide race, but give her credit for the most important thing: she has won in a Democratic district five times.
And by the way, AJ, no one in the country is "pro-abortion." People think abortion should be legal, which is completely different from being in favor of it.
