Just about one out of two New Jerseyans would like to move out of the state at some point to avoid high property taxes, according to a Monmouth University/Gannett poll released today. 44% say they want to “live out their lives here” while another 7% aren’t sure. That’s not good news for Gary Rose, the ex-Goldman Sachs millionaire-turned-bureaucrat who runs Governor Jon Corzine’s Office of Economic Growth.
The “Hold Me Accoutable” Governor has essentially made Rose the state’s economic growth czar, which means Corzine’s friend get tagged with some responsibility for making 49% of New Jerseyans feel as though they might prefer to live somewhere else.
Of course, that depends on which 49% of New Jerseyans want to leave.

is Gary Rose really to blame?
While I'm all for holding government accountable, is Gary Rose really to blame? For years, under both Republican and Democratic administrations, legislators dropped the ball. They failed to fix problems with the school funding formula, failed to fully fund the pensions of state workers and are constantly looking for one time solutions to fix the budget instead of finding a REAL solution to the tough challenges NJ faces. How is Gary Rose suppose to help the New Jersey economy grow under these conditions? Its time for the Governor, the Assembly, and the Senate to address these concerns and give the office of economic growth a fighting chance to keep people and businesses from leaving this state. If Gary Rose becomes the scapegoat for the state's woes the people who are really to blame can continue to get away with passing the buck and not be accountable for their lack of action.
"After two years shepherding"
More like “LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER” that’s how well Rose and that once probably to be unemployed ex-Lucent employee are doing and who now is second in command of this listless ship that is going NOWHERE, sounds a lot like Lucent before it’s ship sunk and 10,000 employees lost their jobs.
I suppose you can’t expect anything more from a guy that took a train in the morning and sat in a office on wall street for over twenty years and shuffled papers for a living and then went with his buddy “Guardrail Jonnie” and convinced all of DUMB New Jersey to make him the next INEPT Governor of New Jersey following those wonderful years of Governor, “I’m in love with Golie”, out of the closet McCreepy.
Is it any wonder why the business community thinks this administration and arrogant Gary Rose is just a retired old has-been from Wall Street with no idea how government works or for that matter anything about Economic Growth or really cares.
Remember he’s only getting paid a dollar and that is about all the citizens of New Jersey are getting from him and this worthless administration.
The voters have another chance next month to send a message and remove all of his LOSER, CORRUPT, CONVICTED, FELLOW DEMOCROOKS and start clean with a new legislature that will answer only to the people and not the CROOKS of his own party that have continued to reap of the Stench of Corruption or better know as the New Jersey Democrat Party.
A US democrat seconds that
I've figured it out. I now consider myself a United States Democrat, but certainly not a NJ demohypocrat. The so called
"NJ democartic party" is not only an embarrassment to democrats across the US, they are imposters. These people don't give a damn about minority groups, just token minorities for image, and could care less for the majority in NJ. They have consistenly shown disdain for women, and could care less about affordable housing. NJ is just a big "cash cow" for themselves and their disgustingly low morals judges, lawyers and power lawfirms. They try to enforce eminent domain to "cash in" for themselves and their sponsor developers, all the while acquiring more land for themselves at the cost of the people. Rape NJ while in office-then sit pretty with your conspirators at the golf club. The moment of truth is coming-I believe that, because many in NJ are on the path to revolt. And if all out revolt has to happen, count me in-it's the American way.
NJ democrats- my a.s
Put the blame on the right people!!
Florio, Whitman, McGreevey, and Corzine for sure but how about the Republican Senate and Assembly under Whitman along with the Democrat Senate and Assembly under McGreevey and Cozine for fixing blame.
People are leaving because they don't want to adopt the corrupt NJ Government when they die. New Jersey makes it almost impossible to accumulate any wealth through draconian taxes and regulations and if you can accumulate wealth, New Jersey shows up in first position before your children to share in your inheritance like your first born.
Can you figure it out? 2 + 2 = 4 It is not rocket science. The ones leaving are the Seniors who have accumulated wealth that would be spent in New Jersey. These seniors don't burden our school system or our jails so you would think that these are the people you want to keep. Total economic ignorance is the mindset of the Ruling Class.
If New Jersey is one of the worst places to start or operate a business, highest taxed, and will confiscate the largest portion of your estate of any state, why in the world should people stay here?
Warning to the people: When the 49% goes down, it will not be because New Jersey fixed anything so don't be fooled. It will be because that portion of decline has already left.

You can't squeeze money for property tax reform from more sales/income/corporate taxes which are already sky-high. The only realistic alternative is to reign in the cost of government but the Trenton pols are loath to do that. The result is that more folks are voting with their feet. Especially high-income folks. Why pay a 9% income tax when you can cross the Delaware River and any one-third the rate, or retire to Florida and pay no income tax at all?
Put the blame on the right people!!
You’re a good example of what and how things got the way they are. Oh please, you know nothing about Christie Whitman so give it up dummy.
As for the Seniors give me a break, THEY are mostly to blame for this mess in NJ as they voted and they stood by to let it happen, so I have no sympathy for these people and now they are deserting the sinking ship that they helped destroy with their LOUSY voting choices for representatives as far back as Cahill.
So please, I’m tired of hearing about Governor Christie Whitman, who gave New Jersey back it’s dignity and business support in a time when thanks to that Corrupt, Tax Increasing, administration of Camden’s finest son Jim Florio nearly sent the state into bankruptcy.
So go back, stick your head in the sand, the same for those Seniors you are so quickly to rally around have done for the last twenty years and as they continue to do to this day.
You all voted for this jerk now CHOKE on him.
Attack corruption like we attack terrorism...
What was the one method that enabled authorities to be effective against terrorism? They went after the funding, the bank accounts-ie : the tools terrorist use to operate. What are the tools that enable corruption? for one thing if NJ law enforcement, the ethics boards, and the judicial engage in favoritism and cover ups, no matter how many laws are enacted, corruption is free to operate, as there are little or no consequences for pols or their lawyers. NJ has a buffer system in place . The constitution of NJ is written with many loopholes that give the judicial ultimate power of discretion- AND complete immunity. The ethics boards in every county and the state are a joke,as they are run by the very same political lawyers who control the bar, the judges and the courts. These same lawyers have influence with the banks, development, the counties-freeholders, the state, and are milking government funds for all it's worth,ie-the tax payers money. These lawfirms of course are regular contributors to the pol parties, and hold county seats all over NJ, including state development offices. Legislation is one thing, but governor appointed judges, lawyer appointed ethics board to screen lawyers, and governor appointed state attorney generals, is a gourmet recipe for rampant corruption, and rampant corruption is what we have. Lawyers who go up against these lawfirms can lose their business and or licenses. Why do you think it took an out of state lawfirm to fight for the rights of NJ folk against eminent domain, and it takes a federal US attorney to get any kind of real police work done?. Why do you think the pols are up in arms against Christie? Like I said, take the tools away, and the terrorists start to go down.
