In response to recent negative attacks against Assemblyan Bill Baroni (R-Mercer, Middlesex), Charles Wowkanech, President of the New Jersey AFL-CIO, issued the following statement:
"Bill Baroni is a truly independent voice for working families and that is why the New Jersey State AFL-CIO was proud to endorse him for State Senate. Accusations that Bill Baroni is a "Bush Republican" are laughable. Our endorsement was based upon his support for the issues our members care about. The contrast couldn't be clearer; whether it's the prevailing wage – Assemblyman Baroni has voted in support while President Bush repealed it post Hurricane Katrina. President Bush has attacked unions and workers consistently over the past six years, while Bill has served as the Co-Chairman of the Republican Legislative Labor Caucus. Bill Baroni voted in favor of a clean minimum wage increase, while President Bush opposed it. Their records speak for themselves – Bill Baroni has consistently supported pro-labor policies, President Bush has consistently opposed them."
